Prior to my hospitalization I was receiving Meals On Wheels, daily, because I am legally disabled. Needless to say, I was not going to be able to fix ANYTHING for my husband & sons' for Christmas Day. Why? I didn't get released from the hospital until Dec. 23, 2013.

In December 2013 I had to undergo an emergency surgery for a bowel obstruction. My entire colon had to be re-constructed, 2 feet of bowel had to be removed, and all of it had left me spending a couple weeks in the hospital.

The Unitarian Universalist Community Church in Danville, Indiana was the ONLY church (advertising through Meals on Wheels) that offered any person or families (even those that were not affiliated with UUCC) who weren't able to fix Christmas Dinner for themselves & their immediate family members...with the choice of either going to the Hendricks County Fairgrounds for Christmas dinner & fellowship, OR they would deliver, all being FREE OF CHARGE, to your home on Christmas Day.

Thank you to all of the members of UUCC that took the time out of their Christmas Day festivities, donating their time to fix & prepare the meal, as well as use their own vehicles & gas to deliver meals to those who couldn't make it to the fairgrounds. We know that they had the choice to spend time w/their own families, or help those that they didn't even know...and they choose the latter. God bless all of you for your thoughtfulness, time, & compassion. I know you made our family happy and feeling blessed!

I couldn't go out w/over 50 staples in my belly & being on heavy pain meds. Also, my husband couldn't leave me by myself to go to his parents' home for Christmas Dinner, because of all of the help I needed to get up & down, in & out of bed, to the restroom, fixing my own lunch, etc. So...the UUCC were WONDERFUL, friendly, & VERY helpful to us, all. They not only brought us all a warm, fresh, meal to all of our bellies, but smiles to all of our faces, as well! Oh... & the dinner was delicious, too!

The Blackford Family :)

Wishing all of you a safe & happy 2014 New Year!!!

Love the folks there but it all seems rather clickish!
